Are there any Dangers?
There seem to be only three real reservations about experimenting with
brainwave entrainment.
- The first of these relates to those individuals who are predisposed to
epileptic fits, which could be triggered by flashing lights and possibly
sounds. Such individuals should not attempt entrainment, except under the
direction and direct medical supervision of their physician.
- The second is a caution relating to the very relaxed and dreamlike state
that can be induced by, and follow the use of entrainment. Under no
circumstances should you drive a car or operate potentially dangerous
machinery while in this state. Virtually all commercial tapes caution you
about this - follow the same restraint with any tapes you create yourself.
- The third relates to the awakening of the Kundalini. This is an elemental
psychic force which some believe to reside at the base of the spine and can be
released by prolonged meditation or the correct type of brainwave
entrainment. I have no experience of this, but have read of it and mention
it for completeness. For more details see either James
Mann's Kundalini Treatise or the books in the recommended
reading section.
Note: this not an extensive list - as in all matters dealing with humans,
everyone is different. You must assess the pros and cons for yourself. Many
patents relate to this topic - if you have any reservations, a patent search
would be one place to start.
Personally, I don't have any qualms - I'm just listening to sounds in my
headphones ...
